Environmental Education is the theme of a special edition of Biociências Magazine

The Biosciences Magazine, from the University of Taubaté (UNITAU), has just won a new edition. The special publication has as its theme: “Dossier Education and the environmental challenges in the 21st century”, that was produced in collaboration with the Professional Master in Education (MPE) from UNITAU. According to the editor-in-chief of the magazine, o Prof.. Dr. Valter Jose Cobo, The theme was chosen due to the relevance and concern with the role of education in relation to the environment. “The importance of addressing this issue is pressing, The challenges are in our doors and certainly awareness of the theme is necessary ”, comments on the editor-in-chief who also teaches the discipline of Marine Biology at the University of Taubaté.

In the opening text of the dossier, An article on “Environmental Education: a sustainable path to combat climate change ”, o Prof.. Dr. Willian José Ferreira and Profa. Dr. Katia Celina da Silva Richetto, UNITAU MPE, and the profile. Dr. Ericka Voss Chagas, from the Federal University of Alagoas (UFAL), reinforce that climate change is an urgent global challenge that profoundly impacts the environment and society.

“In this scenario, Environmental Education (EA) emerges as an important tool in the dynamics of understanding the complex connections between human activity and climate impacts, awareness and motivating people in relation to sustainability, revealing how daily decisions affect nature. ”

Still according to the authors, In addition to EA's actions, Continuing Teacher Training has great meaning in this process, because they have direct influence on the dissemination of knowledge about climate change and promoting environmental responsibility among students.

In another article signed by. Dr. Valter Jose Cobo, With the title “Ecobarreira on the Capivari River, in Campos do Jordão, Serra da Mantiqueira Paulista: an environmental education practice ”, The teacher reports the development and application of an environmental education practice to a high school class, of a school unit of the municipality of Campos do Jordão, through the use of an ecobarreira.

“The making of the ecobarreira was made by the students and installed on the Capivari River, and later the removal of the waste captured by the ecobarreira, With ‘Passaguá’ network. The implementation of the ecobarreira became a continued activity, involving developments with the integration of other disciplines (Geography, Story), adding different approaches, contributing to the establishment of an interdisciplinary learning model at school ”, says the teacher in excerpt of the summary.

Still in the presentation of the article, The teacher points out that the development of activities such as construction, Installation and operation of the ecobarreira as a school action directed to environmental education has the potential to combine practice with theory and allow students to experience conservation and preservation strategies, whose effects can culminate with the awareness of environmental issues.

Biosciences Magazine has continuous edition and receives new articles

The university's Biosciences magazine disseminates scientific works by the authors of national or international institutions in different areas of biosciences. The publication has two annual numbers, i.e., Disclosure happens in the sixteenth in three languages: Portuguese, Spanish and English.

“The dissemination of articles is directed to a varied audience of biocience professionals such as biologists, dentists, doctors, nutritionists, nurses, Physical educators, Environmental Educators, among others who have in common interest in research within one of these areas ”, emphasizes the teacher.  

The edition presents a continuous flow. As scientific articles are approved by editors, The publication is made, so that the theme number is open during a period and other articles are incorporated, promoting initiatives of educators in approaching the subject.
