Today's PED in the classroom brings Prof. Samyra's report, who teaches mathematics in the São Paulo state education network and is a postgraduate student in the line “Pedagogical practices for equity” – linked to PED Brasil – of the Professional Master's Degree in Education at the University of Taubaté.
“My journey through the Professional Masters in Education has transformed my vision as an educator. The approaches developed in PED classes, that relate theories and practices, provided me with a deeper understanding of equity-oriented pedagogical practices in mathematics teaching. The discussions throughout classes opened new horizons for my professional development, allowing me to critically reflect on my teaching practice and the need to adapt it to contemporary educational challenges.”
Inspired by the concepts learned in the course, Samyra implemented the group work approach in the 7th year elementary school classes, where he teaches mathematics.
“The activity was planned to promote inclusion and take advantage of the diversity of student skills, encouraging collaboration and mutual support. The proposed problems were designed to provide multiple resolution strategies, encouraging students to discuss and explore different mathematical methods together.”
The teacher also tells us that this dynamic promoted an environment of collaboration and equity, in which he was able to notice an increase in students' self-confidence and more active participation in classes.
“This success reinforced the importance of developing innovative, student-centered pedagogical approaches, which are fundamental to equitable and effective education.”
