The University of Taubaté (UNITAU) advances in teacher education by integrating more than 200 students of the face -to -face and distance education modality (EAD) to the institutional program of teaching initiation scholarships (PIBID). PIBID is a program that aims to encourage the training of higher education teachers for basic education.
Participants will receive a monthly scholarship of R $ 700 for two years, allowing them to reconcile the academic routine with teaching practice. This financial support facilitates, also, the permanence in the course, ensuring that the student can devote himself to training.
PIBID coordinator at Unitau, prof. Dr. Suzana Lopes Ribeiro, emphasizes the relevance of the program in the preparation of future teachers.
“PIBID inserts the student in school reality with the support of a school teacher and a university teacher, making this experience safer and more formative. Furthermore, There are research showing that many teachers abandon their profession in the early years of their careers. Pibid helps reduce this dropout, because it prepares the student better for the challenges of teaching”

Traditionally, The program serves face -to -face courses and the inclusion of EAD represents a significant advance for teacher education at UNITAU. According to Profa. Dr. Cristiane Tavares Casimiro de Oliveira, EAD Coordinator Unitau, This achievement demonstrates the university's commitment to the quality of teaching, regardless of the study mode.
“The student interested in pedagogy will have a concentration core focused on technologies in education, while undergraduate students in Physical Education will have a specific core for the area. Participation in PIBID allows these future teachers to have classroom experiences still in graduation, being guided by experienced teachers, e, furthermore, can comply with part of the mandatory internship of the course”, explains the teacher.
UNITAU, that already had a significant number of pibid bags for their face -to -face degrees, now further strengthens its position in the educational scenario by offering this possibility to EAD students. “It is not any university that has PIBID.
