IV EPAVA – Meeting of Teachers and Students from Vale do Paraíba
08 a 09 from November 2024
The IV Meeting of Teachers and Students of Vale do Paraíba (WRECK), event that has established itself as a space for reflection, dialogues, pedagogical practices and collective construction of knowledge, in particular, between teachers and students, whose central theme of this fourth edition is “Multiple knowledge and languages in Basic Education: dialogues on the environment and digital technologies“, will be held on the days 8 e 9 of november 2024. A IV WRECK, organized by the Postgraduate Programs – Master in Applied Linguistics e Professional Master's Degree in Education – from the University of Taubaté (UNITAU), is an invitation to teachers, students and researchers reflect and debate about the urgent intersection between education, the environment and technological advances, essential elements in contemporary times for the formation of critical subjects, conscious and transformative.
IV EPAVA will feature a diverse program. Expert talks, communication sessions on research and pedagogical practices, in addition to book launches, among other enhancing inputs in the educational field, are part of the activities. These moments will be opportunities to exchange experiences, immersion in multiple knowledge and the strengthening of collaboration networks between teachers and students, of public and private schools, as well as researchers in the field, about everything, from the Vale do Paraíba region.
The theme of IV EPAVA is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (ODS) and HIM, especially with regard to the SDG 4, which aims at inclusive education, equitable and quality for all. By promoting interfaces about the environment, the IV EPAVA reinforces the commitment to the SDG 13, dealing with action against global climate change, e about ODS 15, which addresses the protection of terrestrial life. Regarding the discussion about digital technologies in basic education, the IV EPAVA proposal connects directly to the SDG 9, that fosters epistemological expansion, relating to tools and industrial infrastructure. In that regard, one of the focuses of IV EPAVA concerns the exchange of ideas and pedagogical practices in relation to the democratic use of advances in industrialization with a view to harmonious and responsible development between humanity and the environment.
In this scenario of multiple languages and knowledge, o IV WRECK, based on a commitment to transformative education, emerges as a forum to develop reflections on contemporary educational practices, by enhancing the construction of student and teaching practice that articulates and builds insurgent languages to face global challenges and, like this, prepare subjects for a more equitable future, fair, developed and balanced with regard to the environment and well-being, as Krenak proclaims (2020).
In this spirit of living in harmony with the environment, when based on the position of the indigenous leader, environmentalist, philosopher and Immortal of the Brazilian Academy of Letters, alluding to the fact that the myth – and fetish – of sustainability was “invented by corporations to justify their assault on our idea of nature”, It is important to highlight that humanity has been manipulated into believing that it is part of a conglomerate separated from the planet. As Krenak asserts, "we were, for a long time, packaged with the story that we are humanity. Meanwhile — while your wolf doesn't come —, we have been alienating ourselves from this organism of which we are part, to Earth, and we start to think that he is a thing and we, other: the Earth and humanity. I don’t understand where there is anything that isn’t nature” (2019, p. 9-10).
In addition, based on the teachings of the great quilombola master Nêgo Bispo, IV EPAVA aims to disseminate knowledge and pedagogical practices that can, somehow, enhance convergences between humanity and nature, then, in confluence, we “become us and other people – we surrender. Confluence is a force that yields, that increases, “how wide” (Santos, 2023, p. 15). In this way, the IV EPAVA will be an agentive construction meeting to, by some means, rescue, critically-collectively, the good life.
