Teacher and student participation reinforces MPE-UNITAU's commitment to training that goes beyond the walls of the classroom.
The Professional Master's Degree in Education from the University of Taubaté (UNITAU) attended the AMVALE Awards 2025, initiative of the Association of Municipalities of Vale do Paraíba that recognizes innovative projects developed by city halls in the region. The university was part of the jury committee, strengthening its historical commitment to regional development and training professionals attentive to the contemporary demands of cities.
This year, the coordination of the jury team was led by teacher dr. Fabrina Moreira Silva, professor at the MPE and deputy coordinator of the CEUS – UNITAU Sustainable Center, representing the university in technical dialogue, institutional and evaluative with the participating municipalities.
One of the highlights of the action was the participation of the master's student Daniela Teodoro, member of the Teaching Initiation Program (PID). Invited by your advisor, teacher Fabrina, the student followed the entire evaluation process of projects submitted by city halls, experiencing an expanded perspective of teaching — one that takes place through listening, in the analysis and understanding of the territory.
Professor Fabrina highlights that initiatives like this are essential in teacher training:
“When our master’s students occupy real spaces for dialogue between universities and public management, they realize that teaching is not limited to the classroom. It also takes place in the presence, in critical analysis, in social responsibility and in the ability to understand the multiple dimensions that involve public policies and practices.”
During the awards, Daniela sat at the table with the judges, observed the criteria used, followed technical debates and witnessed the importance of academic participation in territorial assessment processes. For the master's student, the moment was remarkable:
“It was a unique opportunity to see education beyond formal education. I realized the relevance of the university in these spaces and was able to better understand how training is linked to the daily life of cities.”
UNITAU's presence at the event also included the participation of dean, teacher dr. Nara Perondi Fortes, gives dean of Extension, teacher dr. Leticia Pinto and the CEUS coordinator, professor Dr. Paulo Fortes Neto who reinforced the importance of bringing the institution closer to municipalities in the region and involving students in external training experiences.
The initiative reaffirms MPE-UNITAU's commitment to training that articulates theory, practice, territory, social responsibility and sustainability. By integrating its master's students into external actions of regional relevance, the program strengthens the construction of sensitive teaching, critical and committed to contemporary reality.
Participation in the AMVALE Awards shows that training educators is also opening paths, broaden horizons and allow the training process to dialogue directly with the worldo
— exactly as proposed by MPE-UNITAU in its institutional mission.
