<p>Games to playfully stimulate the learning of mathematics for early childhood education are part of a virtual book published by the Editora da Universidade de Taubaté (<a href="https://editora.unitau.br/index.php/edunitau/catalog/book/67" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">EdUnitau</a>).</p>



<p>The book “Mathematics in early childhood education: 16 unconventional problem-solving proposals” introduces different methods that teachers can use with students. The publication is the result of research involving 17 early childhood education students, from 4 years to 5 years and 11 months, in a public school in Vale do Paraíba. The research resulted in a dissertation by Profa. Ma. Raíssa Alexandra Lopes Duarte, graduate of the Professional Master&#039;s Degree in Education (<a href="https://unitau.br/cursos/pos-graduacao/pesquisa-e-pos-graduacao/mestrado-profissional-em-educacao/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">MPE</a>) from UNITAU. Raíssa was guided by Profa. Dr. Maria Tereza de Moura Ribeiro, que integra o corpo docente do MPE.</p>



<p>The researchers highlight the role of mathematical teaching, with interactive methods, for the development of children&#039;s autonomy, allowing them to raise hypotheses and present ideas. Os problemas foram desenvolvidos a partir do interesse da classe em conjunto com os documentos norteadores da educação infantil.</p>



<p>“They were interested in pizza, what they ate at the weekend, So we took advantage of this theme to develop a proposal in which they could problematize and construct mathematical concepts&#8221;, explica a professora Raíssa.</p>



<p>Student protagonism is essential. “The teacher does not induce the answers, children think, share, learn from colleagues”, conta a professora Maria Teresa.</p>



<p>The quality of education is a topic closely monitored by the United Nations (HIM), being one of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (ODS 4). In the last two years, houve um aumento da taxa de analfabetismo entre jovens devido à pandemia do coronavírus.</p>



<p>No brazil, data from the Basic Education Assessment System (SAEB) point out that 20% of 2nd year elementary school students do not know how to do basic math operations, like addition and subtraction. This represents an increase in 4% em relação à taxa de 2019.</p>



<p>The connection between learning mathematics in kindergarten and elementary school is made by teacher Maria Teresa. “Early childhood education is a fertile point for stimulating logical thinking. If the child has contact with mathematics in this way, From an early age, she will have more chances of being a student who likes to solve problems, a behavior that facilitates the teaching of mathematics.&#8221;</p>



<p>According to professor Raíssa, It&#039;s not about anticipating concepts for children, but, sim, to stimulate the development of an understanding of mathematics. “If the child already has contact with mathematical knowledge, if she already develops mathematical perception in early childhood education, a spatial sense, of course, not fundamental, It will be easier to perform basic operations. Working with manipulative materials will allow this child to reach elementary school much more calmly in order to have access to these concepts.”</p>

<p>Professors at the University of Taubate (UNITAU) are related in a <em>ranking</em> which features the world's most influential researchers. The <em>AD Scientific Index</em> 2022 provides information about more than 1 million scientists distributed in 19.150 universities around the planet. The list of <a href="https://www.adscientificindex.com/?university=Universidade+de+Taubat%C3%A9+UNITAU" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">UNITAU</a> count with 21 prominent names, of which the vast majority remain in activity and integrate the programs of <a href="https://unitau.br/pos-graduacao/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">postgraduate studies</a> oferecidos pela Instituição.</p>



<p>Scientists' performance profiles cover the three areas of knowledge, with 15 representatives in Biosciences, 5 in Humanities and 1 in exact. The <em>AD Scientific Index</em> also places UNITAU among the 4.000 universidades mais influentes no mundo.</p>



<p>“Indicators like these serve to prove the quality of our faculty, which is reflected in the quality of our courses and in the learning of our students. UNITAU produces research, produces knowledge and, therefore, plays an important role in promoting social transformation and improving people's lives”, says the Dean of the University, prof. Dr. Nara Lucia Perondi Fortes.</p>



<p>The <em>AD Scientific Index</em> uses Google Scholar indicators as a basis (<em>Google Scholar</em>) – platform specialized in searches related to academic literature. The <em>ranking</em> is established through a combination of criteria such as the <em>h-index</em> e-o-i10, that count and evaluate the number of citations received, worldwide, em relação aos artigos publicados pelos pesquisadores.</p>



<p>“The classification of UNITAU professors by the <em>AD Scientific</em> demonstrates that the Institution is internationally inserted in the field of scientific production, that participates in the debate and current scientific guidelines”, reinforces the Dean of Research and Graduate Studies, prof. Dr. Monica Franchi Carniello.</p>



<p>At the top of the UNITAU list, is Prof. Dr. Gilberto Fish. The meteorologist specializes in Atmospheric Sciences and Climate Change, member of the faculty of postgraduate programs in <a href="https://unitau.br/cursos/pos-graduacao/odontologia/mestrado-academico-em-ciencias-da-saude/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Health Sciences</a> is at <a href="https://unitau.br/cursos/pos-graduacao/ciencias-agrarias/mestrado-academico-em-ciencias-ambientais/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">environmental Sciences</a>. are related in <em>ranking</em> 89 publications and research developed by Professor Fisch yielded 6.063 citations and place it among the 105 1,000 most influential scientists in the world. Among the most recent activities, for example, está uma pesquisa internacional sobre alterações climáticas na Amazônia com a análise das simulações de cenários futuros e os potenciais impactos para o Vale do Paraíba.</p>



<p>The second position is occupied by Prof.. Dr. Sheila Cavalca Cortelli, professional who also integrates the faculty of the Post-Graduation in <a href="https://unitau.br/cursos/pos-graduacao/odontologia/ciencias-da-saude/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Health Sciences</a> and produces research related to periodontics. Among the works developed by her is a survey that sought to relate the negative impacts of diabetes and obesity in the treatment of gum diseases.. are in the survey 95 publications and 4.228 citações relacionadas à pesquisadora.</p>



<p>UNITAU brings together research groups certified by the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), com direito ao recebimento de recursos por agências de fomento.</p>



<p>The diffusion of the knowledge produced by the University occurs regularly since 1996, with the first edition of the Scientific Initiation Meeting (Enic). From that moment, scientific initiation took shape at the University and new meetings were incorporated over the years, such as the Graduate Show (MPG), the Management Seminar (SEA), the University Teaching Seminar (world) and the Extension Seminar (Semex). From 2012, there was the unification of the agenda, with the first edition of the International Congress of Science, Technology and Development (Cicted). Between the days 19 e 21 next october, UNITAU promotes the XI Cicted, entitled to face-to-face activities after two years of remote programming.
