Os cursos de licenciatura a distância vêm passando por um processo de acentuada expansão nos últimos anos, tendo em vista uma forte tendência de interiorização e democratização promovida pelas instituições de ensino superior (IES), principalmente as privadas. Segundo o MEC/INEP, in between 2011 e 2021, o número de ingressantes em cursos superiores de graduação na modalidade de educação a distância (EAD) aumentou 474% e os ingressantes em cursos presenciais diminuiu 23,4%. A série histórica da pesquisa indica, still, que as duas pontas da ferradura — ensino presencial e a distância — tendem a se afastar cada vez mais. In 2019: pela primeira vez na história, o número de ingressantes em EAD ultrapassou o de estudantes que iniciaram a graduação presencial, no caso das instituições privadas. currently, poucos trabalhos científicos se concentram nessa expansão. Os resultados apresentados mostram o crescimento dos cursos de licenciatura, analisando as variações sofridas pelo número de matrículas e pela expansão dos polos nesse período.
